VARIABLE SPEED PUMPS

We are a trade ally with Duke Energy and participate is their energy efficiency efforts. Variable speed pumps have been used in commercial applications for decades but have recently been introduced to the residential pool market. These motors operate using the Affinity Laws and are fundamentally different than the standard efficiency motors as well as being constructed in a different way. Simply put, the variable speed pump allows us to reduce the speed of the motor which allows the water to flow at a reduced speed. The lower speed reduces friction within the plumbing which in turn reduces the amount of energy needed to push the water through the pipe. While most of the manufacturers claim a 90% reduction is energy consumption, I have measured a more realistic reduction of 50% to 65% and this is primarily due to the minimum flow rates needed for waterfalls, heaters and salt system.
